FFG FUNDING APPLICATION SUBMITTED · DECISION PENDING

SOLBEIT Industrial Intelligence.

SII is a planned research and development project for an edge-oriented industrial intelligence platform. The goal is to bring together PLC process data, industrial machine vision and OT-relevant signals in a shared analysis environment in the future.

SII is currently in the concept and preparation phase. The FFG funding decision is expected around September 2026. Development is scheduled to start only after the funding decision and depends on its outcome.

EDGE-ORIENTED TARGET
Local processing planned
OPC UA
Native PLC connectivity envisaged
MULTI-SIGNAL ANALYSIS
Linking process, image and OT data planned

From concept to a planned development project.

The technical and functional framework for SII has been developed as a research and development project and submitted to the FFG for funding.

Until the funding decision, work focuses on project preparation, requirements alignment, architecture planning and discussions with potential future application partners. The actual development of the platform has not yet started.

01

Funding application submitted

The project has been submitted to the FFG for funding.

02

Decision pending

Based on current planning, the funding decision is expected around September 2026.

03

Development start open

The start and the specific schedule of development depend on the funding decision and the subsequent project approval.

04

No pilot platform yet

There is currently no production-ready, validated or market-ready version of SII.

Viewing industrial signals together.

In production environments, process data, camera images and OT-relevant events are often captured and evaluated in separate systems. As a result, possible relationships between process states, quality deviations and technical events remain difficult to identify.

SII is intended to investigate how these different signals can be brought together in an edge-oriented platform, correlated over time and made available for traceable analysis.

The goal is not to replace existing PLC, vision, MES or security systems. SII is planned as a complementary analysis and integration layer.

Signal source
Planned integration
PLC and process data
OPC UA-based capture of selected variables, states and events
Image and inspection data
Planned integration of industrial image and result data
OT-relevant events
Planned capture of selected network and configuration events
Analysis
Temporal correlation and joint presentation of different signals
Provision
Edge-oriented processing with defined interfaces to higher-level systems

What is to be investigated during development.

The following functions describe the current technical target. Scope, implementation and sequence may change over the course of the research and development project.

Process data connectivity

An OPC UA-based integration of selected PLC variables, states, alarms and events is planned.

Image and inspection data

The aim is to investigate how image data, inspection results and metadata from industrial vision systems can be integrated and linked with process information.

Anomaly analysis

The plan is to investigate suitable data-based methods for detecting unusual patterns and deviations.

Correlation analysis

Process, image and event data are to be viewed together over time in order to present possible relationships in a traceable way.

OT-related signals

The aim is to investigate how selected network, connection and configuration events can be included in the joint analysis.

Edge-oriented architecture

The target envisages processing within the respective infrastructure. The specific architecture as well as data protection, security and operational requirements will only be developed and validated during the development project.

Where the concept could later be tested.

The following examples are planned or conceivable application scenarios. They do not represent SII reference projects that have already been implemented or validated.

01

Automotive and metalworking

Process states and visual inspection results could be viewed together in order to make unusual changes to tools, components or process parameters visible earlier.

02

Electronics manufacturing

Temperature, process and inspection data could be brought together in a shared temporal view in order to better investigate deviations and possible relationships.

03

Production and critical infrastructure

Process deviations and selected OT-relevant events could be presented together to support technical analysis and the traceability of events.

From the funding decision to a possible pilot platform.

The roadmap represents the current planning status. Start, scope and dates depend on the funding decision, the project approval and the results of the individual development phases.

For further project planning, we are seeking exchange with industrial companies that can contribute relevant application scenarios, data sources and requirements.

Getting in touch is currently non-binding and represents neither a pilot commitment nor the start of an installation. A possible pilot programme can only be specified after the funding decision, the start of development and sufficient technical maturity.

Current status: funding decision pending. No pilot installations or productive SII deployments yet.
